When I moved to the north shore of Oahu, I had no idea just how beautiful a life it would lead to! From the surfing to the local community and all of the beauty almost everywhere you look, it’s never boring for a photographer. Wahine on Waves is about celebrating women of all ages and backgrounds who surf. One winter after moving to the north shore, I was reminded of what a male dominated sport surfing is when I heard a man telling another man that he thought women shouldn’t be able to compete in the Eddie Aikau (here are my photos of that). It’s only the second year they have been able to compete ever. I started Wahine on Waves to celebrate women who surf and to help capture the beauty of a powerful woman and her surfboard.
